For my first blog post of 2023 I am pleased to announce 4 new leathers have just been released and are available to order via my web store. These are all leathers I sourced just before the holidays, and they are now ready for sale.

I’m confident these new leathers will prove popular, but I’m going to sweeten the deal slightly by offering an “early bird” discount on them. For the next 2 weeks, if you order any strap to be made from one of these four leathers it will be available at £20 off the usual price. Full details (including the discount code to use at the Checkout) are at the bottom of this blog post.

So, let me introduce the four new leathers…..

Anthracite

Last year I started using an oiled veg tanned goatskin that I called Heidrun. It has proved very popular over the last twelve months, and so I’ve been looking for something similar for a while now. I’ve actually managed to find a very small amount of it in grey, which I’ve called Anthracite and released as a limited edition. It has a fabulous distressed look due to the antiqued finish. It’s actually the same leather as Heidrun – the only difference is the colour, so it will be slightly thinner than my standard 4-5mm strap thickness, but it is a lovely strong leather and is perfect for a watch strap.

Desert Kudu

This is another leather I’ve released as a limited edition because I don’t have much of it. It is a kudu leather produced by the same tannery that I get my Dark Kudu and African Kudu leathers from, but it was produced as a “special” in a limited run, and I have only found one skin, so when it’s gone it’s unlikely I’ll be able to source more. Those of you that know me understand how highly I rate these kudu leathers, and Desert Kudu is up to the same high standard. It’s been dyed a lovely sand colour in production (hence the name), and as with all kudu leathers from this tannery it’s produced from full grain hides, so it does show all the scars from the animals life on the African Savanna. This is highly recommended.

Horween Football

This is actually a leather I’ve been using for some time, but never in this colour. Quarterback is a leather I introduced in 2016, and is actually the same leather used for the official NFL Footballs® produced by Wilson, but I’ve now found it in oxblood colour that I’ve been asked for many times. It’s maybe not the most imaginative name, but I’ve decided to call this Horween Football. This is a Tanned in Tack® leather that Horween have been producing for the last 70+ years. The Tanned in Tack® process was developed to improve the print retention on a football so the pebbling of the leather stays in, thus improving the performance characteristics of the ball. It also produces a strong and robust watch strap with an interesting texture.

Trident

This is a completely new leather that I found recently, and it’s one I’m quite excited about. Trident is a bovine leather produced by a European tannery. It’s a naturally antiqued leather, but with the addition of an aniline top finish, producing a stunning leather with a lovely pull up and a gloss finish. I have it in this beautiful deep blue colour that I believe will prove very popular. It will certainly get a lot of wrist time from me!
