Every year I take a road trip around the UK to visit tanneries and leather wholesalers, on the lookout for something that inspires me. This year there were four leathers that I came home with, and now I’ve had some time to work with them and see how they wear, I’ve launched them onto my website store. You can see more information about them there, but suffice it to say they are all exceptional leathers.
Merlot Kudu is another wonderful leather from the same tannery that produced King Kudu and Emperor Kudu. King Kudu has sold out already, and I would guess that Emperor Kudu won’t be around for much longer either. Merlot Kudu is just as good, and is highly recommended.
Cerberus is a bovine leather produced by a small UK based tannery. It’s a tough leather, but in the weight I buy it makes a fabulous watch strap. A deep brown colour and a strong pullup show off the beautiful texture of this leather.
Sapphire is a leather from an Italian tannery, and is wonderful. It’s a full grain veg tanned leather produced in a deep inky blue colour and has been tumbled after tanning. This tumbling results in a leather that is strong and robust, but is soft as butter from the start. It also helps to bring out the texture of the leather.
Amalthea is a heavy weight goat leather, produced in the UK. The tannery uses larger goat skins for this leather than is common, resulting in a stronger & firmer goat leather than normal. I have it in this golden tan colour
