Quarterback leather - handmade watch strap by Toshi Straps, using the leather supplied to the NFL for the NFL footballs

Quarterback is a leather that I bought recently and has just been launched on my store page. For those of you who follow American Football the pebbled texture of the leather may seem familiar.

The leather is produced by the famous Chicago based tannery, Horween. It was developed and produced by Arnold Horween Sr., who played football professionally and was the head coach of the Harvard football team, and has been produced by them ever since. For the last 60 years this leather has been used by the NFL for their footballs.

I managed to find a little of it in this almond colour on my travels recently and I think it makes a lovely strap. Quarterback is a thick leather so the straps made from it are approximately 5mm thick, but for a large watch like a Panerai it’s perfect. I hope you like it.

For anyone wanting to see it, I found this news feature by WGN TV of Chicago about the leather used for NFL footballs interesting.

Yankee straps, handmade by Toshi Straps, are made from the same leather as NFL footballs.
