Woody, wearing his new Toshi Straps dog collar, handmade from fully veg tanned leather

Looking for a quality handmade dog collar?

Over the last 13 years of making watch straps I’ve been asked many times to make dog collars for my clients pets, but I’ve always declined. The reason is simply that the leathers I use for my watch straps just aren’t suitable for dog collars – they’re too thin. Recently however I started thinking it might be kind of cool to make a few dog collars as part of a limited run, so I went on the hunt for a suitable leather and I’m pleased to say I’ve found something that I think is perfect. Over the last month I’ve been playing around with some ideas and making prototypes, and today I’m happy to announce that (if you’re quick, because there is a limited amount of this leather available) you can get the canine in your life his or her own Toshi Dog Collar. This is a limited offer however – there is enough leather for about 20 collars only! The cost for one of these collars is £70 and to order one you’ll need to email me at rich@toshi-straps.com (see the bottom of this post for full details on how to order).

The leather I’m using is a 3.5mm thick, robust cow leather that has been fully vegetable tanned and has a tumbled appearance. It’s thick & strong yet supple, so it makes for a perfect collar and should put up with everything that your canine pal throws at it. I’ve paired it with a strong roller buckle, a sturdy metal keeper and a “dee” to attach a lead – all hardwearing yet stylish.

The collar is of single layer construction, riveted where the buckle, keeper and dee are situated, and stamped with the Toshi Straps logo on the back and on the strap end. It’s 22mm wide and can be made as long as you need it to be – as with my watch straps there is no standard length, so if you want to order one I will need you to take a measurement of your dog’s neck and I’ll work from that (full details at the bottom of this post). It’s available in black leather only at the moment (as shown).

Please be aware that the dog tags shown in the photos are not included with the collar I’m offering, but I have arranged a discount with the maker of the tags for anyone interested by them. I wanted a dog tag for the photography for this blog post, but I wanted something different and when I saw these leather tags I thought they were very cool. The maker is Kohsi Pets and I found them on Etsy = https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/KohsiPets. They come in two sizes (FYI these are the smaller size) and anyone ordering one and using the discount code TOSHISTRAPS10 will get a 10% discount off their order. Thanks Shelby!

So, how do I order a Toshi Straps Dog Collar?

If you want to order a Toshi Straps Dog Collar for your dog please send me an email to rich@toshi-straps.com along with a measurement of your dog’s neck circumference – not too tight, just the tightness you want him / her to wear the collar. I will then base the length of your dog collar on that measurement – 9 holes will be punched in the collar with the middle (5th) hole at that distance from the buckle. In that way, if your measurement is accurate, you should find you secure the dog collar in the middle hole (but there will be plenty of room for adjustment either side, so don’t worry too much). The cost is £70 per collar – this includes shipping.

I have enough of this leather for about 20 collars only, but if enough people show a comitment over the next 4 weeks or so I can order more (and I can get the same leather in dark brown colour too, so if you like the collar but want it in brown then let me know – if enough people want brown I can order some brown leather).
