Redwood is what is known as a "crazy horse" leather. It's a heavyweight, full grain leather that is treated with oils after tanning to produce a product that is hardwearing yet supple, and which will develop a fabulous patina as it ages. Redwood is a lovely dark reddish brown colour with a slight pull-up. It is the perfect leather for a watch strap. Confusing as it may sound, "crazy horse" leather is not a horse leather, it's actually made from cow hides. It's called "crazy horse" because being supple and very hardwearing it was traditionally used in the manufacture of horse saddles. The strap photographed for this page was stitched with natural thread (which I personally think works best with Redwood), but black and grey stitching also work well. If you want something that will stand out then bright yellow stitching is something to consider. To see the options for thread colour see the stitching colours page. Straps produced with Redwood leather will be approx 4.5mm thick and are priced as follows: £100 with a free spring bar buckle £105 with a sewn in buckle £110 with a screw bar buckle -
This is a leather I am very excited about. It is a veg tanned horse hide from Horween and is available in a limited quantity only. It’s beautifully soft and supple, and has a deep richness to it. Personally I think it is perfect with dark brown thread, but works well with natural, grey, or even royal blue or emerald green thread too. Straps produced with Rodeo leather will be approx 4mm thick and are priced as follows: £120 with a free spring bar buckle £125 with a sewn in buckle £130 with a screw bar buckle -
This is a medium weight full grain Italian cow side and one of the softest leathers I work with. It has a very slight pull up and is a very soft and comfortable watch strap. The strap photographed for this page was stitched with light brown thread, but natural, butterscotch and olive drab will work well too. Straps produced with Russet leather will be approx 3mm thick and are priced as follows: £90 with a free spring bar buckle £95 with a sewn in buckle £100 with a screw bar buckle -
Once in a while I come across a leather that is truly special, and Russian Tan is certainly that. A truly artisan leather, produced by a very small tannery utilising deer skins and using a traditional vegetable tanning process. The hides come from controlled deer culls, and the tanneries receive the wet salted raw hides directly from the wildlife stewards who are responsible for maintaining the deer populations. Once tanned, the leather is embossed with the famous Russian hatch pattern, which has become synonomous with the world's best leathers. This is a soft & pliable leather that certainly lives up to that billing, in my opinion. You can see all the options for thread colour on the stitching colours page, but Russian Tan is a classic leather and one that I believe should always be stitched with natural thread (as photographed). Trust me on this, and I am confident you'll love it. Straps produced with Russian Tan leather will be approx 3.5mm thick and are priced as follows: £130 with a free spring bar buckle £135 with a sewn in buckle £140 with a screw bar buckle -
Sage is a soft calf leather with a tight grain and sheen. This leather needs no breaking in and wears very comfortably. Scarlet is a beautifully soft classic vachetta leather produced by a small independent tannery located in Tuscany. This small tannery uses bovine shoulders, putting them through a fully vegetable tanning process before "tumbling" them in a drum, producing a leather with this wonderful pebbled finish. Scarlet is soft and pliable from the start, and makes for a wonderful strap. If you like the look of this leather but red isn't for you, I bought some in blue too - see Indigo. Serpent is a thin, soft & pliable calf leather with a snake print pattern and a matt finish. I won’t use exotic skins for my straps, but the chance to use a calf leather with an effective snake skin print was something I couldn’t pass on. This is a fabulous leather produced from African kudu skins in a stunning deep, rich brown colour. If you are looking for a strap with character then this is one for you! Shamen is a very soft, full grain kudu leather that is just perfect for a watch strap. Kudu live in dense brush or forest in the African Savanna, one of the harshest environments on earth, and are prey to preditors such as leopards and hyenas. The kudu skins used to produce this leather exibit all the scars and marks of the animals hard life, as a result no two kudu leather straps will look the same, ensuring your strap will be unique. I have been lucky enough to buy a small amount of this leather and I am making it available as a "limited edition". As a result, each Shamen strap will come with a signed letter from me stating the date your strap was made and giving it a production number. As is the case with all the kudu leather I use, the skins are the result of the seasonal kudu cull mandated by the South African government. The strap photographed for this page was stitched with light brown thread. Dark brown and black thread look great too, as does any strong colour, so red, emerald green and royal blue would work well. Straps produced with Shamen leather will be approx 4mm thick and are priced as follows: £120 with a free spring bar buckle £125 with a sewn in buckle £130 with a screw bar buckle -
Shooting Brake is a leather that was actually commissioned by one of the UK's oldest motoring manufacturers for the upholstery of one of their luxury saloons. The tannery produced more than was ordered and so I managed to buy a little of what was left. It is fully veg tanned calf and is unbelievably soft and supple. If you want something buttery soft then this is for you. It has a pronounced grain, a slight pull up and a lovely matte dark brown finish. A classic dark brown strap. The strap photographed for this page was stitched with dark brown thread, but light brown, natural and grey all look good too. Straps produced with Sky Blue leather will be approx 4.5mm thick and are priced as follows: £90 with a free spring bar buckle £95 with a sewn in buckle £100 with a screw bar buckle -

I recently went to visit a leather wholesaler who supplies the French fashion house Hermès with leather for their leathergoods. I managed to convince him to sell me a small amount of "Ultraviolet", a strong, deep purple leather usually made into Birkin / Kelly handbags - and now available for me to make your Toshi Strap with. This is a leather that is certainly not readily available (and I probably won't be able to get any more once it's gone) so I'm listing it as a "limited edition". As a result, each Ultraviolet strap will come with a signed letter from me stating the date your strap was made and giving it a production number. Vintage Black is something a bit special and highly recommended. Made from young ox hides, the British tannery that produces Vintage Black uses a pit tanning process that takes 14 months to produce the finished leather. Three types of tree bark are used in the process, before the leather is dressed with dubbin and birch oil. This attention to detail results in a truly unique and luxurious black leather that wears well and smells wonderful. The strap photographed for this page was stitched with black thread which I personally prefer, but Vintage Black can be dressed with any of the stitching colours I have avalable to accent details on your watch. Straps produced with Vintage Black leather will be approx 5mm thick and are priced as follows: £130 with a free spring bar buckle £135 with a sewn in buckle £140 with a screw bar buckle -
