shopping for leather. My annual pilgrimage to find something new and wonderful

This week I took a few days off strap-making to go shopping for leather. For the last few days I’ve been away from north Devon traveling around on my annual pilgrimage to various tanneries and leather wholesalers to see what they have that grabs my attention. As well as looking for new and interesting leathers that I can launch this year, I also wanted to replenish some of the leathers I already use as I am running short of some of them. This means a lot of time spent driving around the country, and a lot of rummaging in piles and piles of leather looking for hidden gems (a good example of what I often find is shown in the photo above – taken at one of the leather wholesalers I visit). It’s very time consuming but it is an essential part of the Toshi Straps calendar – every year some current leathers have to be discontinued as they sell out and these are replaced by new leathers that I find on my travels.

I’m back at Toshi Straps HQ now, and have brought back with me about half a dozen new leathers that I think you will like. I’ve spent far more than I planned to (that always happens – I can’t help myself!) but I’m sure they will be well recived. The new leathers will be added to the store over the next month or so as they are ready. I’m not going to give anything away now because I want to make some straps from them to test them out first, but there are a few that I am very excited about (a couple were only available in a small amount of leather so will be launched as limited edition straps, but more about that nearer their release).

Unfortunately however there are a couple of the current leathers that I wanted to replenish that I couldn’t find more of (it appears they are not produced anymore) and so they will be discontinued when they run out. I’ll write a blog post over the next week or so telling everyone which leathers are running short, but rest assured that if the leather is shown in the store when you are choosing it is available (as soon as I receive the final order for a leather I remove the leather from the store, so if it’s in the store I have it).
