At the beginning of the year I promised that each month this year I would select one of my personal favourite leathers and write a quick review of the leather in my blog. As well as a mini review, there would be a month long promotion on that leather. Well, this is the eleventh and penultimate “in the spotlight” so I thought I should feature a leather that is not only one of my personal favourites, but also one of the best selling leathers of 2022. The leather that is in the spotlight for November is Tundra.

Tundra

“Tundra” is a leather I launched just under 2 years ago now. It’s the product of a small, independent tannery in Italy, and I love it. The tanning process of this leather is a centuries old method and takes around 6 months. Once tanned, the leather is dyed and then goes through a “re-tanning” process where a secret blend of oils, greases and fats are “added in” to the leather. This re-tanning is important as it replenishes the oils and fats that lubricate the fibres of the skins (some of which has been removed from the skins as a by-product of the tanning process). This re-tanning results in a soft & pliable leather with a distinctive pull-up.

Tundra is a lovely warm brown colour with a naked, antiqued look. It’s been a personal favourite of mine since I first launched it, and I’ve tried it with various different thread colours to see what works best. The strap I made for this blog post was to be photographed with my Panerai 24, and I went for light brown thread. This is, in my opinion, the best colour thread for this leather – it just works. If you want a little more contrast in your stitching however then natural thread looks great too.
