About 18 months ago I wrote a blog post about straps I make for for the Oris Aquis range of dive watches. I thought it was about time I updated that post, but I also thought it would be useful to include some instructions on ordering a strap for the watch, and some things that should be considered when doing so.
The first thing to determine is which case size your watch is. The Oris Aquis has been produced in different case sizes over the years. Most cases have a 12mm lug (i.e. the gap where the strap attaches to the watch is 12mm wide), but there are other models where the lugs are 10mm wide. It is important for you to measure the lug width for your watch before ordering please, so we both know the strap I make for you will fit your watch.
If the lugs are 12mm I would suggest a 26mm wide strap (but a 24mm wide strap will work too). If the lugs are 10mm you need a 24mm wide strap.
One more thing to consider. Because the lug width is narrow on the Oris Aquis, the leather used should not be too soft or it will quickly loose it’s shape where it attaches. There are a lot of forces that act on a strap at the point of attachment as it is worn, and the narrower the width at this point the more they come into play. Some of the leathers I use are too soft (e.g. Denim, Vanilla, Wild Deerskin etc.) so when you have decided which leather you would like me to use it’s a good idea if you email me before ordering to let me know. I can then confirm whether that leather is suitable, and offer alternative suggestions if it isn’t.
