The leather I’ve chosen to be “in the spotlight” this month is a relatively new leather, and something a little different. Diablo was introduced on my website just last March, but has been a popular choice with my customers from day one. It’s also been a favourite of mine (hence the decision to make it this months promoted leather), and has seen a lot of wear on my 233 over the last 12 months.

Diablo

Diablo is a leather I happened across at an Italian tannery just outside of Florence at the end of 2020. It is a pure vegetable tanned cow leather which has been dyed a bright red colour. It is a beautiful leather with a pebbled grain & semi glazed finish. It truly is a stunning looking leather, but it is a little thinner than the leathers I tend to use, which was a slight concern when I first looked at it. I’ve found in the past that some thin straps can loose their shape a little over time, so I initially resisted the temptation to buy it and instead came away with just a sample – enough to make a strap for myself to see how it performed on the wrist. When I got back home I made a strap from the sample I had and after a couple of days of wearing the strap I realised I needn’t have worried – Diablo straps may only be approx. 3mm thick but the leather has a strong structure and holds it’s shape perfectly. I wore the strap for 3 weeks solid to make sure, but I was more than happy with it so I placed an order with the tannery, and it went live on my website store a month or so later.

The Diablo strap (with red stitching) pictured has been one of three straps that I have kept going back to for my 233 over the last 12 months, and gets a lot of positive comments when I wear it. Personally, I don’t like straps with high contrast stitching, and so because Diablo is such a strong colour I favour either red or grey stitching with this leather. That is just my personal preference however – the fact is that most of my customers who have ordered a Diablo strap have ordered it to be stitched with either natural or white thread. I suppose that just goes to show that I’m obviously in the minority when it comes to choice of stitching colours! One thing is for sure however, whatever thread colour you prefer with it, a Diablo strap will get noticed.

As it is the leather in the spotlight for February 2022, for the whole of the month you can order a Diablo strap with a £20 discount (see below for offer).
