This is a leather I have been working with for the last 4 years, and over that period it has become one of my all-time favourites. It has been very popular with my customers, too, and it’s easy to see why. Raven is a pure vegetable tanned calf leather, produced in small quantites by an artisan tannery using a traditional vegetable tanning process that takes 6 months from start to finish. It’s full grain, and is “tumbled” after tanning to allow the natural grain of the leather to shine through. It’s slightly thinner than the straps I usually make (a strap made of Raven leather will be approximately 3.5mm thick), but the leather has a structure and strength that is perfect for a watch strap.
I adore the texture of this leather. It’s so soft and pliable, but being a full grain leather it’s strong and holds it structure well. The tumbled grain is just lovely.
