Shell cordovan is a very rare and special leather and makes a beautiful watch strap. It is a horse hide, but unlike other leathers shell cordovan is not made from the animals skin. It is produced from the “shell” of a horse (the shell is the fibrous muscle beneath the skin on the horse’s rump) tanned by hand in a traditional process that takes 6-8 months, and considered just about the best leather there is. It is a soft, pliable leather with a tight grain and a lovely shine, but it is also very hard-wearing.

I’ve been looking for some Horween shell cordovan is this intense blue colour for some time now and I’ve finally been able to source a few pieces. There is a very limited quanity of this leather, so get it while I have some left – I’m confident you won’t regret it!
